Midwifery Care
The essence of midwifery care revolves around supporting women through the deeply personal and joyful experience of childbirth, leaving them in awe of their strength and in love with their baby. Midwives provide comprehensive care by promoting maternal health throughout pregnancy, advocating for minimal technological intervention, monitoring the well-being of both mother and baby across the prenatal, labor, birth, postpartum, and newborn stages, offering education to enable informed decision-making, and advising on suitable management or referral in case of complications. It's important to note that Sage Roots does not practice inside the hospital, rather we offer home birth services.
My Philosophy
Chilldbirth is an "everyday miracle." It's amazing to witness how wonderfully created a woman's body is and to see new life come into the world. I believe that childbirth works well, especially when respected as a normal, physiological process. Birth is a transformative event that deserves respect and individualized attention and care. Because each pregnancy and birth is as unique as the woman and child, I prioritize informed decision-making, holistic support, and empowering women to take an active role in their own care. I work to prioritize safety by utlizing evidence-based practices while honoring your autonomy and dignity. Because while birth generally works very well, it is important to be prepared for when ti doesn't. Ultimately, I strive for truly shared-decision making between midiwife, the mother, and her family with the shared goal of keeping birth normal when we can and being prepared for when we can't.
What to Expect
I offer comprehensive care for normal pregnancy, labor, home birth, and the postpartum period. Care typically begins between 8-12 weeks gestation, with prenatal visits lasting approximately 60 minutes and held monthly until 28 weeks, then every two weeks until 38 weeks, and weekly from 38 weeks until birth. Prenatal visits involve discussion about nutrition, exercise, options and recommendations for pregnancy tests and procedures, and a physical health evaluation. During birth, at least one midwife and an assistant will be present. Postpartum care includes home visits for mother and baby at 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, and 4 weeks postpartum. Your final postpartum visit will occur at 6 weeks postpartum back in my office.
